Video – Ciriaco Hotel & Resort, Calbayog City, Samar, Philippines

Occasionally, my wife and I will head to town early in the day to take care of some business or do pick up supplies and we always make a stop that includes coffee and breakfast and Wi-Fi fix at a local coffee shop, Isla Cafe in Calbayog City. Upon arriving this day, we were told that their internet service was down and we would have to go eat breakfast somewhere else. Have you ever heard of a restaurant referring their customers to another restaurant? (Especially in the Philippines?) Well, we appreciated the fact that they told us before we even sat down so we took their advice and headed to a place they suggested and a place we rarely visit (mainly because of the cost and more distant location). But today we decided to head to the Ciriaco Hotel and Resort in Barangay Bagacay, just to the south of Calbayog City. There we found a breakfast buffet offered for only P220 (about $5.05) with unlimited coffee and Wi-Fi. So we indulged….and we indulged some more. Aside from many restaurants  here not knowing how to keep buffet foods hot, this buffet was actually pretty good.

Because I happened to have my camera with me, I  decided to take the opportunity to get some photos  and shoot a little video. The Ciriaco Hotel and  Resort is Calbayog’s most upscale hotel with  rooms starting at around P1000 per  night (about  $23.00). The Hotel is very modern, clean and has  some beautiful ocean views. About 5 minutes from  downtown Calbayog,  it’s just a short tricycle ride to  town for about P10 to  P15. Of course this is not the  only place to stay, but  it is the most upscale hotel in  town.

  1. Yup, that’s just down the street from our farm. Nice hotel.

I think UJ also lives in that neck of the woods.

  2. UJ lives directly across the street. He lost his view of the ocean (and seabreeze) when they built the hotel.

  3. Nice hotel.

I believe family tried to get us rooms in 2012 trip. None available.

We stayed at a hotel down the road near the airport which was still under construction.

It was nice. The only problem was the smell coming in from the Calbayog river. Drove me to the room to donate what I had eaten.

  4. I believe the Ciriaco is a nice hotel, but it is nowhere near being a 5-star hotel. Maybe 5-star for Calbayog! We have eaten there and spent our 28th anniversary overnight there. Overrated in my opinion.
