Blogging Attracts Some Real Idiots

No, not you! I bet your initial take was that you were thinking “is he talking about me?” But no, I’m referring to the hundreds of website owners and other bloggers who have no better way to attract visitors to their site, so they must hack another site with bogus comments – and most times with a linkback to their site. Some of these sites are bogus sites or they can be adult related and simply try to attract business their way through trickery.

I have received hundreds of these since beginning my Retired in Samar Blog, and this is after I have taken some precautions to prevent them from showing up. The only other way to stop the unwanted visitors is to disable commenting on my site but then I would lose the intent of this site…to provide the sharing of comments and experiences for those folks interested in moving abroad, and more specifically to the Philippines.

Some of the comments I get make absolutely no sense and some are just idiotic, which makes me wonder who in the world is doing the writing. The grammar is so bad sometimes it is how I can easily identify the bogus comments such as this one: “Thanks a lot for sharing this with all people you actually recognize what you are speaking approximately! Bookmarked. Kindly also discuss with my website =).”
and this one, which is a response to a Notice to Foreigners article I posted back in February – “One can find surely a

great deal of details like that to take into consideration. That’s a great point to bring up. I offer you the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly you will discover questions like the 1 you bring up where by far the most important factor will be working in honest superb faith. I don?t know if very best practices have emerged about issues like that, but I am certain that your job is clearly identified as a fair game.”

As you can see, these comments are almost sensless and have no contexual meaning to the article they are commenting on. I mean really, who talks like this (unless maybe it is written in a foreign language and translated by Google Translate before it is posted). Some days I can spend several minutes sending these to the spam or trash folder in frustration, and other days like today, I read some and they just make me chuckle and think that at least I am smarter than some of the idiots that write these things….at least my English is better!

Now I wonder how many stupid responses I will get from this article. I guess I’ll just wait and see.

  1. I use to get tons of those stupid Spam messages. Now I rarely get one of my TitP blog. I still get them on my UJ Leftover blog though. As for my UJ You Tube Videos blog, I have disabled comments on that one.
Some of them are really outrageous and anyone would have to be totally stupid to click on any of them. I wonder if these people actually think that these are doing any good? Heck , I wonder if they are? Oh well, I will continue to delete them as they come in. At least I know they won’t be affecting my website that way, as long as I delete them and not open them.

  2. Here’s one I received today: “Fastidious replies in return of this query with firm arguments and telling the whole thing about that.” Sheesh!

  3. I have been reading your site for a few months and wondered about the fractured English. My asawa of 36 years never spoke that poorly. I am glad to see there are a few expats in Calbayog. We are planning on making the move next year. Our son and grand kids are in San Isidro and the wife is going over in Aug to visit and look for land near Calbayog.

I will continue to monitor your site and promise to bring no spam.

  4. Hi Randy in Oregon. The fractured english is the first sign of a spammer. Mostly, I believe many messages are program translated from other languages and are the reason they never make sense. We are uncovering expats in the Calbayog area all the time and there are way more than I would have ever guessed. Right now I think we have identified at least 15 with more to be found. Calbayog will be a great place to settle as things are improving rapidly there for everyone. Thanks for commenting as it helps to identify our little community. Some day we will all have a large gathering there, maybe enough for a lechon event!
